Our New Family Hub

🚨🚨🚨 We finally have some news about our new family hub in Sacriston 🚨🚨🚨

🚔 We have been waiting to “officially” move into the old police station on Plawsworth Road since 2019.

🛑 There has been delays with a lease being issued which hindered us being able to apply for grants to fund the internal work to create open spaces. As a former police station there is lots of little rooms and cells inside, however we need eyes in the back of our heads during our sessions so it will be converted to open plan on both floors.

🛑 Then the Covid pandemic caused delays with site visits and we moved to virtual meetings and communicating via email and telephone.

🛑 Then new Brexit procedures delayed materials so contractors had a back log of jobs.

💷 The cost of the work has been split into 3 phases.

1. The internal work is £65,000

2. The cost of work to the external rear of the building is £30,000

3. The cost of the shop front is approx £20,000.

🙌🏻 We have now raised the money for the internal work. It has not been easy, and we have had to do this while applying for grants to keep our sessions going.

Our timeline:

May 2019 keys to the hub issued

Jan 2020 architect visit

Mar 2020 graphic designer visit for CAD

Oct 2020 lease issued

Nov 2020 JD Sports HQ Property team director agrees his team can project manage the refurb

Dec 2020 Tender for work issued by JD Sports

Dec 2020 Planning permission granted

Jan 2021 Tender responses appraised by JD Sports

Jan 2021 Asbestos survey completed

Feb 2021 Building Regs passed

March 2021 Structural engineer visit

April 2021 funding secured for phase 1

April 2021 contracts awarded by JD Sports

July 2021 pre contractor site meeting

31st August 2021 proposed contractor start date

⏱ There is so many hours of work going on behind the scenes that people are unaware of. We never have a day off 😴

🤞🏻 Fingers crossed everything goes to plan and our hub is up and running this year.

❤️ We can’t wait to welcome you all 🥰
